November 04, 2020

Many people are unaware of how to care for a new wool coat or cashmere coat. In fact, good maintenance can increase the life of your wool coat/cashmere coat and, of course, enhance its visual aesthetics. Now, with these 8 wardrobe tips, you'll be able to wear your clothes longer, look better, and possibly even last a lifetime.

Firstly, if you are in a rush, please remember, the unholy trinity of felting is:

  • drastic temperature change
  • agitation
  • detergent

3 Care Instructions
  • Washing instructions - Wool should be dry cleaned (only some wools are washable).
  • Drying instructions - Wool clothing should be laid flat to dry. Rolling it with a towel to squeeze excess water is advisable.
  • Ironing instructions - Iron on low temperature & steam. Turn fabric inside out to avoid iron marks & shine.

1. Avoid water scrubbing

It's possible to cause various degrees of shrinkage, while the machine wash will even distort the shape of them and no longer fits.

2. Do not expose to the sun

Hang them up after wearing and avoid hanging your coat in direct sunlight as this will cause the colors to fade and the heat could potentially damage the structure of them. In fact, the wool coat has its own natural function to remove the wrinkles.

3. Clean the stains immediately

When the coat gets stained or dirty, clean it immediately, must foster a good habit for cleaning.

4. Clear the dust

Compared with other chemical fibers, wool/cashmere is not easy to produce static electricity. However, there may always be stained with dust, we need to sweep them away as soon as possible to keep the coat clean. There is a special stick on the market specifically used to remove the dust, which applies to any wool clothing, like the woolen coat, tunic sweater dress,  wool cardigans, etc.

5. Different solutions for different stains

Juice stains can be removed with a hot towel, while coffee or tea stains need to be absorbed with a dry towel. If there are mud spots on your coat, you can wipe them off after the mud has dried and then use a wool brush to remove them. Also, if the stain is begging for grease, wipe it off carefully with a dry towel and don't let it stay on the coat for too long in case it's hard to clean later.

 6. Solutions for pilling

Fuzzy balls are caused by the continual rubbing. Many people may think the quality of the wool clothing is not good if the pilling occur. Actually, the soft wool clothing with good texture is easy to have fuzzy balls, that's why some professionals regard them as a method to examine the quality of wool clothes. Those pillings can be cut with scissors/ sweater stone. Do not remove the hairballs forcibly, which easily damage your clothes.

7. Solutions for floating hairs

The new coat generally has a layer of floating hair, we need to use the special lint roller to remove them. Brush your coat from top to bottom and continue going in the same direction, it's also good for sticky hairs that are caused by static electricity.

8. Storage For wool coat

When storing your wool coat, hang it on a wooden hanger to maintain shape and hang them in a shady, well-ventilated place. For additional protection, you can put some mothballs to prevent cockroaches or other insects from infesting the wool. And if your coat is more than 80% wool, do not attempt to wash it yourself. Bring it to the dry cleaning shop to have them professionally cleaned: once a season should suffice.
