April 29, 2017
What do you think of when we mention “Summer”? I know you can give me various answers, such as ice cream, swimming pool, beach, ocean, etc. But I believe, we will invariably say “hot”. All those we mention above just help us to take away the heat. So, except for these traditional methods of cooling, there are clothes that can keep our body cool during the hot summer.
When you go shopping, you might want to be on the lookout for fabrics that will not only keep you cool but provide comfort as well. I’m a big fan of the bohemian look, so I might just wear jersey maxi dresses and skirts all summer long. That’s my idea of being chill and comfy chic!
I want to know what you like to wear!
In the meantime … check out 10 of the best summer fabrics.
1. Cotton (non-pure cotton)
While linen is King, cotton is Mr. Popularity. Strong hygroscopicity, comfortable, soft and washable. But cotton is easy to wrinkle, easy to shrink and easy to be stained. Cotton also absorbs moisture very well and dries almost as fast as linen, keeping the skin cool. It's more durable and can be machine-washed without any problem.
2. Linen (non-pure linen)
Linen clothing is THE summer fabric: light, comfortable, breathable and with some texture to make it interesting to the touch. It also dries very fast when wet or damp. However, its texture is hard, stiff, and easy to wrinkle. (except for the high-quality soft linen). They will definitely keep you cool! If you are interesting in linen, you can check the history of linen in this blog.
3. Rayon
Rayon is made from natural cellulose, which is chemically processed to produce fibers. But just as linen and cotton, it's cool and comfortable. It absorbs humidity, making it a great fabric for summer. The only cons is that it's not as durable, and thus should be dry-cleaned instead of washed.
4. Silk
What about silk? It's a natural fiber but like wool, it tends to retain heat and moisture. Also considered a luxury material, this fabric is so amazingly soft and cool to the touch.
Mulberry silk: moisture absorbent, breathable, cozy, extremely soft, and anti-wrinkle. Compared with cotton linen, its price is much higher.
5. Georgette
Georgette, similar to chiffon, is an another sheer and airy material you’re going to love on those hot days.
6. Chiffon
Chiffon can be divided into silk chiffon (100% mulberry silk ) and artificial silk (100% terylene). All basic features are as follows:
a. texture is light and transparent. Feel soft, elastic, breathable and draped.
