April 20, 2017
Chinese tea culture, as one of the seven necessities (an ancient Chinese saying, which goes:” Firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, and tea are essential of people's daily life). It can be seen that tea drinking is quite common and important in the ancient and modern.
In order to brew a perfect pot of tea, three elements are indispensable. They are tea, tea sets, and tea brewers. However, among the three elements, that of the great importance is the tea-brewer. Besides, "chafu” ( the clothes for making tea ) is the prelude of tea arts.
The culture of chafu begins from Han Dynasty, having a millennium history, is an occupational apparel for tea-things activities.
Although annals do not shed much light on chafu, we can also find the beauty of them in some ancient paintings. The historical and cultural essence can show well the profound connotation of chafu.
Men's chafu are usually simple and plain whose fabrics mostly are ramie or homespun cloth, which can highly embody all the temperaments and spirits of tea masters.
Women's chafu are also simple and plain, but the cut and colors are more abundant.
The beauty of tea wearing is in its unique oriental charm, like the classic ink Danqing: elegant, refined and decent.
A lady wearing the plain linen clothing, beautiful as a blossoming flower, silent yet as if something fills her mind with a myriad of thoughts and ideas, but we cannot spell over her own story.
After thousand years have passed away, chafu has never changed her connotations, while meeting the demands of a new age and keeping the true heart towards tea culture.
Chafu, this typical Chinese clothes, is the essence of Chinese tea culture, which remains worth flourish in modern society.
